We spent 12 days in Greece and took nearly 1000 pictures, so as you can imagine, editing that down to a few is a problem. We started in Athens, seeing the Acropolis and the ancient city of Plaka during the day and at night before we headed into the countryside the next morning, map in hand and a cute little rental car. I would recommend this tour that we took. We bought a package that included all the hotels, the rental car and the plane tickets with a map between each night's destinations. We also had an english speaking guide for three of the days - at Mycenes, Olympia, and Delphi. Other towns that we stopped in were Napfoli, Tolo, Mystera, Sparta, Messenes, and Meteora before we left from Athens and headed to Santorini Island.
So what image do I choose to add first? The inside of a bar! That's apparently (as it says in all the guide books) a famous Athens bar, that we wandered into because I was mesmerized by all the colorful bottles. Pat enjoyed some very nice Ouzo and the bartender made me a really fun fruit juice concoction. We spoke to the owner, who was quite the schmoozer and very pleased with his purchase of this famous landmark. (He'd had it about a year.) But this is just to set the stage.
Nancy and Dave strongly recommended we see the city and the ruins by night. It was beautiful. But I also really liked the sweeping views of the city, both the old and the new (within the last 50 years)during the day.
