Apparently, about 25 years ago, Jack Lang had a good idea. He said, hey, we should celebrate the longest day of the year with a music filled party, where ever we are. The tradition has evolved into some huge musical events, but the greatest are the street parties where residents bring a dish, and their favorite instrument and celebrate summer and music.
We met several of our neighbors on this June 21st, many of whom knew the owners of our house, but we hadn't yet met. We even met some english speakers, an American who lives in the hood, and of course many french families. One family invited us to dinner this coming Sat night, but that has to be changed now because France is playing in the 1/4 finals of the World Cup, and nothing can interfere with watching that!!! So we are going to two parties - one for the 1/4 finals and then the dinner, now on Sunday afternoon.
By the way, what dish did we take? Well, Shirley's fabulous potato salad, of course!! (oh yeah, and a bottle of French wine, from Les Baux, in Provence.)
