Greece: Last Night in Athens
After Meteora, we had a really long drive back to Athens for our last night there before we flew off to Santorini Islands. We returned to the same construction ensconced hotel, but this time we were rewarded with an amazing top floor suite of rooms that overlooked the city – somewhat removed from the noise and rather pleasant to view from the huge balcony. We hadn’t really had any great meals anywhere in Greece, and we asked at the hotel in Athens to send us somewhere that the locals would go for a really nice dinner. Something that they thought would show Athens’ real character. The desk clerk at the Llissos sent us to Piraeus. It is a neighborhood surrounded by the harbor, where Greek restaurants feature fresh seafood and impeccable service. I think the name of the restaurant we chose (or was chosen for us by our concierge) was called Zorbas. The whole part of town is layed out such that the actual restaurants are on one side of the street, and the harbor side seating is served by a platoon of waiters running across the street with your food and drinks. There was no hitch and Pat had an amazing fish prepared tableside which was better – but just, than my seafood linguine. The service was so amazing, and our corner table was so romantic- I thought I was some kind of royalty. The whole adventure was really amazing.
