In this city of Love, I have to say Valentine's Day is much promoted by restaurants, and les grands magasins, but like most commercial holidays, it doesn't seem to have the real power of say Valentine's Day in London -- Which was pasted everywhere promoting the package deals and shows. However, last year, we went to dinner at Le Timbre one of our favorite places, and will do the same thing this year, when my Valentine finally gets back in town.
Now, mind you --- Paris is pretty dang romantic, even in the worst days, so I think there is no need to promote any one day for romance here. That said, why miss an opportunity? While shopping today, and lunching with a few other girlfriends, french and american, who were without dates for the evening, we did peruse the collection of books like the Guide Routard Romantique or Guide to Paris for Romantics, with listings of famously romantic dinner places, river banks for lovers, and particularly beautiful places to stroll hand in hand.
