And we did take a side trip to BATH

Vic and I took three trains from Windsor, where we were staying at the Christopher Wren House to go to Bath, and we hoped to Stonehenge, but you have to start a lot earlier than we did, if you are going that far.

We got up after talking till the wee hours of the night, and stumbled out looking for coffee and scones with strawberry jam and cream. We ate those waiting for the train from Slough to Reading, where we were then going to take a train to Bath. It was all very adventurous, and not too taxing. The weather was clear, and sunny, and the trains, though running very late, were comfortable. We arrived in Bath to find out that it was too late to get a tour to Stonehenge, and it was another 1 hour train ride to the closest local transportation there, so we bagged that idea, and went looking for fish and chips, and beer.

We found a great pub where I had fish and chips, and Vic had beer and Indian food, and we were set.

We followed the signs to the largest attractions in Bath, the Roman Baths and the Cathedral. By now it was nearly 3 p.m. and we only had a couple of hours before all the stores and museums closed at 5:30, and it was going to get dark and cold. So much for really exploring, but we were fed and happy and the baths sounded interesting. AND THEY WERE!

The locals unearthed the baths when some one's basement started leaking, hot, stinky water. Of course, I don't know why they didn't already know they were there, the town has always been called Bath, so one would think...well anyway, it was really interesting, and well worth the day's journey. If we had spent the night there the night before it would have been better, and there were some beautiful old hotels there. Maybe next time.
